MARILYN MONROE PORTRAITS

To expand on the maquette, the original Monroe portraits have been further deconstructed and appropriated by Calle Henzel. Henzel applied his signature design characteristic; freeform organic shapes, strategically placed holes, uneven punk-like fringes andelaborate surface treatments.

As a final “kiss”, the collection is topped of with a two-piece design of Monroe’s lips appropriated from a lithograph by Warhol printed as part of a publication called 1¢ Life in 1964.

HENZEL STUDIO

Henzel Studio is a Swedish luxury rug manufacturer established in 1999. Henzel Studio’s ethos is based on the artistic practice of Calle Henzel, founder and creative director. Over the past fifteen years, he has translated his artistic practice as painter and collage artist into the medium at hand, positioning Henzel Studio as one of the most progressive luxury rug brands in the world. All pieces are made by hand, using centuries’ old weaving techniques that make each rug one of a kind.

Henzel Studio collaborates with some of the most prominent names in contemporary and 20th century art, and have had exhibitions worldwide at venues that include Barneys New York Madison Avenue, Colette (Paris) and Austere (Los Angeles).

Henzel Studio is a proud member and supporter of Goodweave, an independent organization that certifies humanitarian standards of rug producers and provides educational outreach and resources.

THE ANDY WARHOL FOUNDATION

As the preeminent American artist of the 20th Century, Andy Warhol challenged the world to see art differently. Since its founding in 1987 in accordance with Andy Warhol’s will, The Andy Warhol Foundation has established itself as among the leading funders of contemporary art in the United States having distributed over $275,000,000 in grants supporting the creation, presentation and documentation of contemporary visual arts, particularly work that is experimental, under-recognized or challenging in nature.

The foundation’s ongoing efforts to protect and enhance its founder’s creative legacy ensure that Warhol’s inventive, open-minded spirit will have a profound impact on the visual arts for generations to come. Proceeds the foundation receives from licensing projects such as this contribute to the Foundation’s endowment from which it distributes grants.
